XVII — The StarReversed

A woman kneels at the edge of water, pouring from two pitchers — one into the pool, one onto the ground. Above her, eight stars burn: one large, seven smaller. The ibis sits in the tree behind her. She is naked — unguarded, undefended, present. After the destruction of the Tower, the Star arrives as the simplest thing: just this. Just the water, the stars, the quiet figure pouring herself back into the world without armor. This is not triumph. It is something more fragile and more necessary than triumph. It is the willingness to hope again.

The large central star with eight points represents Venus and the eight directions of the cosmos — the sense that what guides us is both ancient and ever-present. The seven smaller stars represent the seven classical planets and the complete range of influence available to the figure below. The ibis in the tree is the sacred bird of Thoth — divine wisdom witnessing what is happening. The two pitchers represent the dual movement of healing: pouring into the unconscious waters and into the conscious world simultaneously.

A period of healing has arrived, or is arriving. The difficulties are not necessarily over, but the quality of the energy has changed — there is light coming in now where there was none before. Allow yourself to be restored rather than pushing immediately toward the next thing. Trust is returning. Hope is genuinely warranted. This card is not telling you to ignore what has been hard — it is telling you that the light you are beginning to feel is real.

The hope has dimmed. Not permanently — the stars do not go out — but they are not visible right now. Something has happened, or a series of things, that has made trust feel unreasonable and optimism feel naive. If you are in this place, the card does not ask you to pretend otherwise. It simply notes that the absence of light at this moment is a weather condition, not a permanent state.
