IX — The HermitReversed

The Hermit stands alone at the summit of a mountain, holding a lantern that contains a six-pointed star. In his other hand, a long staff. He is not hiding. He climbed deliberately — because some things can only be seen from this elevation, and some answers can only be found in the absence of noise. The lantern illuminates only the next step. He does not need to see the whole path. What he needs is available to him right now, in this moment of stillness. He is not lost. He has chosen this.

The lantern containing the Star of Solomon represents ancient wisdom brought forward into the present moment — the accumulated light of experience held up to illuminate what comes next. The long staff is both a tool for the journey and a symbol of the wisdom that supports steady movement through difficulty. The snow-covered mountain peak represents the spiritual elevation required for genuine insight — the view is wider from here.

A period of deliberate withdrawal is both appropriate and necessary. You are being invited to step back from the demands and distractions of the external world in order to hear something that the noise has been drowning out. This is not avoidance — it is discernment. Seek quiet. Make space for reflection. The guidance you have been looking for will not come from another person's advice. It will come from within, when you finally give yourself enough stillness to hear it.

The withdrawal that was meant to be restorative has become prolonged. Solitude has shifted from a chosen practice into a pattern of avoidance — staying in rather than going deeper. The Hermit's path ends when the lesson is learned, not when the world disappears. If the isolation has stopped feeling clarifying and started feeling simply lonely or stagnant, it may be time to re-engage.
