Eight of SwordsReversed

A woman stands alone in a circle of eight planted swords, hands bound, blindfolded. Behind her, a castle is visible on the clifftop — her home, but distant now. She is not imprisoned by the swords themselves: there are gaps between them large enough to walk through if she could only see them. The blindfold is the binding that matters most. The ropes on her wrists could be loosened. What keeps her here is not the exterior arrangement of blades but the interior conviction that she cannot leave. The water at her feet, if the tide rises, will become a real constraint — but it has not risen yet.

The eight planted swords form a loose circle rather than a sealed prison — a powerful image of the difference between real constraint and perceived constraint. The blindfold is the most important element: it does not matter that the exit exists if the person inside cannot see it. The bound hands represent the suppression of agency — not its absence. The castle in the background is both home and the place from which she has been separated, suggesting that what she needs is not far, but currently out of reach.
