Eight of PentaclesReversed

An apprentice sits at his bench, working steadily on a series of pentacle coins. Six are displayed on the tree trunk beside him; one is being worked on in his hands; one has been set aside on the ground — perhaps discarded, perhaps simply waiting. His blue and red tunic speaks of purpose and energy; his black leather apron is the craftsman's mark. A distant city is visible on the horizon, but he has turned away from it. He has gone to where the work requires him to be. His back is to the world. His attention is entirely here.

The six completed pentacles displayed on the tree represent work already done — not stored away but shown, because the craftsman takes genuine pride in it. The coin being worked represents the current effort: full attention, full skill, full presence. The discarded coin on the floor represents the perfectionism that is both this apprentice's strength and his potential weakness — the willingness to set something aside that does not yet meet the standard.

A period of focused, disciplined practice is both underway and productive.

The work has become a trap rather than a path.
